Falz Breaks Silence Regarding Defamatory Case Against Very Dark Man

Nigerian musician and actor Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has opened up about the ongoing defamation dispute involving Very Dark Man (VDM). Speaking on the latest episode of the Afrobeats Podcast, Falz recounted his experience with the social media critic after the release of an audio clip containing defamatory claims about him and his father, renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana.

Falz revealed that when he initially confronted VDM about the controversial clip, the critic responded defensively rather than engaging in dialogue. Falz described the encounter, stating that VDM dismissed his concerns, suggesting he should pursue the matter legally.

“This guy was instantly defensive from the beginning; I’m like bro, try and listen. What are you instantly fighting about? And he said to me, without minding words, ‘shebi you’re a lawyer; go to court,’” Falz shared.

The musician noted that although defamation could have taken a criminal angle, he opted not to pursue that route. However, Falz warned VDM to take down the post and issue a public apology within a specified timeframe, but the critic failed to act.

“I’ll have you know that there’s a criminal angle to defamation, and I chose not to go that way. He could have very well been arrested. What you’ve posted is a load of bollocks, absolutely false, and I need you to take it down and offer an apology within a certain amount of time. What did he do? Nothing,” Falz added.

Falz emphasized that the issue escalated beyond personal attacks when VDM dragged his father’s name into the controversy. For Falz, this was a line that could not be crossed, given the principles his father has stood for throughout his career.

“I no dey find trouble Baba, I dey my dey. You set your ring light and begin dey talk all this nonsense about me, and you expect me to sit down? He trampled on every single thing my father stood for, sticking out his neck for the oppressed. So this level of disrespect? See, our people say that any child who says his mother would not sleep, he himself would not sleep,” Falz said, expressing his frustration.

The dispute between Falz and VDM reflects the growing tension between public figures and online commentators, raising questions about boundaries in the digital age.
